History of the Croix Blanche district

Like the neighboring Saint-Seurin district, the Croix Blanche is a former suburb of north-west Bordeaux, which has become a district with the development of the city. Particularly attractive at the beginning of the 20th century for its proximity to the city center, the area is rich in Art Deco style buildings. The district saw the blossoming of the mansions of the 19th century in the 20th century. Its residential vocation being undeniable, both facades and interiors are still well preserved. More recent constructions, from the end of the 20th century, have been added to the neighborhood's residential urban landscape, enriching the living environment with significant comfort elements: balconies and terraces, large areas and parking spaces.

The essentials of the Croix Blanche district

Between the Saint-Seurin district and the Caudéran district, the Rue de la Croix-Blanche and its surroundings are renowned for the beautiful architecture of their homes, between 19th century buildings and Art Deco buildings of the first century. In the immediate vicinity, the Saint-Seurin basilica, rich in many legends, stands out with its remarkable silhouette. Its crypt contains archaeological treasures dating from the 5th century. Place des Martyrs of the Resistance, the hall of the Pergola also sports a typical Art Deco style of the early 20th century. Also nearby are the Lerme market and its human-sized exhibitions, the Gallo-Roman amphitheater called Palais Gallien, or the Georges Mandel Square between the street of the same name and rue Chevalier.

Between President Wilson Boulevard, Judaïque Street, Lachassaigne Street and Turenne Street, the Croix Blanche district is residential and quiet.
